"Welcome to the All-American Sawtelle Stampede in beautiful Island Park, Idaho!"

The Island Park Area Chamber of Commerce founded the Sawtelle Stampede in July, 1997 to provide a fun, healthy and family-oriented event on the July 4th weekend.  Our event is for everyone.  Individual walkers, joggers and the elite runner.  We encourage and offer discounts for teams of families, friends, clubs and organizations.

10k Start

Set for Saturday, July 3, 2010, the Stampede starts at 9:00 a.m.  Register for the Half Marathon run, 10k run, 5k walk/run or 1k kid's walk/run events. The course takes us on dirt forest service roads and trails through the scenic Caribou-Targhee National Forest. With plenty of shade, a rambling stream, breathtaking scenery, enthusiastic and upbeat water stations, this course is truly one of a kind.

We kick off our morning with a Patriotic Tribute.  Idaho Liquid Sound provides the stage and energetic music.  A welcoming and morning innovation, our nation's colors are presented by our local Boy Scout Troop, our National Anthem is performed live by one of Island Park's very own vocalists.  A rendition that should not be missed.  All this with the spectacular Sawtell Mountain as the backdrop.

The event is a fundraiser for the Island Park Non-Motorized Trail Project. This activity is under permit with the Caribou-Targhee National Forest.  All participants will be contributing to the development of the recreational trail system.  Our vision is to have a non-motorized trail from Henry's Lake to Harriman State Park.  We are joining together with the United States Forest Service and Island Park Gem Community Team to make this vision a reality.  In fact, this summer we are very excited that the first section along the Box Canyon Trail will be completed.
